Party Planning - Part 1 (intro and invitations)

Hello everyone and welcome November, which just happens to be my birthday month!

As my birthday is coming up and I am having a smallish party to celebrate I thought I would do a mini series on party planning - well how I am planning my party.

So first I had to decide on a few things:

Theme: for me this is the most important and I chose to have a Great Gatsby themed party. I love everything about the 1920's so why not have my party this theme. The theme is important for me as it creates the spine for everything you need to figure out for a memorable party + it creates a talking point and lots of fun to dress up!

Invitations: obviously to send to people and be creative. Design your own like I did in my theme, or buy some! This brings me to my next point.

Who will be coming: this is important for you to know what to cater for. I have around 16 people invited but it is a busy time of year.

Food, cake and drinks: of course this is a must. What way to make a party better than food! Something everyone loves and it is so fun to make food and drink in the theme of the party. Everyone will be waiting for it so get your chef hat on and impress!

Venue: where are you going to have your party?

Decorations: set the scene and atmosphere and go all out. Work with the budget that you have. You could of course hire or buy decorations but use your creative side and DIY it! I will be DIYing it so stay tuned. People will notice the effort that you put into everything.

Music: add some fun to the party with music. Get everyone on there feet dancing and lucky for me this was pretty much all they did at Gatsby's parties. I will be making a playlist of songs and one I can't forget will be Lana del Ray - A Little Party Never Killed Nobody.

What will I wear, hair and makeup: what will you wear? Obviously in the theme so have fun with clothes, accessories, hair and makeup.

Games: for if you want to make the night even funnier.

Party favors: this is optional and you don't have to go all out. I recently went to a party and the favors were homemade rocky road, really simple but it was absolutely delicious.

So these are just the main things I need to take into considerations when planning a party and I know this post is already long but today is part 1 which is INVITATIONS!!

I had so much fun (and also a little frustration) making these invitations. Starting with my Gatsby theme I designed a two invitations as I did not want to buy any. I made one and I didn't love it so I made a completely different one. I printed both out and stuck them in my planning book ( I know how lame does this sound). Pondered on it for okay lets be real a few weeks. I started planning early haha. In the end I went with the first one but I made a lot of changes. It didn't turn out how I first imaged it and it doesn't look like all the pinterest and google images of Gatsby invitations, but I know I put in a lot of effort for the most untechnological person I am and created a simple but sophisticated invitation. I printed them onto high gloss photo paper, cut them out and placed them in my envelopes.

For the envelopes I just used plain white ones and used water color to paint on the guests names and a message on the back. The message says - from Gatsby Himself x.
I've handed the invitation out already and everyone loved them!

Hope this post helped and inspired you, even if you are not having a party soon!
I love parties, DIY and organisation so I am having a lot of fun with this series and excited for my party.
