Time for another post of party planning, but silly me I didn't do much planning and photo taking of the food. So today's blog as you now know is on food for a party. My party was just in the afternoon so in between lunch and dinner. I didn't need much food but I didn't take photos of half of it.
But anyway every party needs some kind of food to keep the guests happy. Whether that be brunch, lunch, dinner of just in between like mine you need to think and come up with ideas that will fit the party you are having.
And if you want to be real fancy you can style your food to the theme of your party!
Some ideas that I used:
Chilli chicken balls, similar recipe here
Fruit platter
Mini Pizza tarts:
For these you will need little pastry tart cases, sun-dried tomato and goats cheese. You literally put the two ingredients into the tart cases and into the oven for 5 minutes to warm up. Make sure if your pastry isn't cooked yet to leave it in the oven for longer to cook. You can change the ingredients to what ever you would like but these beauties taste like actual pizza! It's crazy.
Chips!
Mini hot dogs:
We bought some nice skinless sausages and mini bread rolls and voila. Just like a normal hot dog only smaller and more gourmet. Of course the sauces were handed out to be drizzled on top.
Lollies!
Spinach and Ricotta Cheese Pastries!
Labeling the food is a good idea for guests to know and adds that extra bit of detail and effort.
For dessert we got a strawberry and mango gelato cake the day before, and brought it out for a few minutes before serving to defrost a little. It wasn't particularly hot but it was refreshing and delicious.
Lollies and mini ice cream cones from the same shop were served with the cake inside because it was poring down.
Lucky for us the factory outlet is close so we could pick on up!
Drinks:
Of course you need drinks. These photos are from a different party that took a lot of planning. As you can see there are a lot of drinks for the 80 or so people that went and that wasn't even all of it! But having a drink area is very handy. Keeping all the drinks, cups and glasses in one area keeps everything organized and the guests know where they are.
If you are catering for a large crowd I suggest hiring tables, cutlery and crockery. For this big party 10 tables were hired, food was catered, cutlery and some crockery was hired. We bought items like plastic glasses and cups, serviettes and table cloths in bulk from stores like IKEA, Kmart, spotlight etc.
Another cake but I wanted to share this. I made this cake for my Grandad's birthday (this was for the really big party). The cake was cut up into small pieces and served with lots more desserts that we got catered. I have never had cake lessons just YouTube to help me and goes to show if you are patient and believe you can create a nice cake! Start of simple trust me from experience I now know that it really has to be simple if you are knew at baking and cake decorating. Be flexible when things don't work out and don't give up!
So this series is nearly over one more post to go and I hope it has been helpful.
Have a lovely day and make sure to enjoy yourself this year. Make 2015 your best year yet!
Best of luck and well wishes x
