Water Color Portrait!!

Hey Guys!
Today I have a tutorial for water color art. Water color is one of my favourite mediums for art, so I thought I might start of my blog with this quick tutorial. I painted a face, no one in perticular, and I just got my image from google to guide me.
So lets get started
First these are the things you will need:

  • pencil
  • eraser
  • water color paper
  • water color paints (either tube all solid like mine!)
  • water
  • paper towels
and an image to help you, or if you are feeling brave, go free hand

Quick Tip:
- If there is too much water on the page you can soak it up with the paper towel.
- There are two different types of water color; solid water color pictured upper left is obviously solid and the water drys off it quickly so it lasts a very long time.
- Liquid water color comes in a tube and is used the same way, water is added to dilute the paint and make it a lighter shade.
- the dryer or thicker the paint the heavier and darker it will come across on the paper
- you can use water to quickly blend out harsh lines, or if it is to dark.
- Remember that we are going for a messy look so it doesn't matter if you go outside of the lines.

Step 1:
Draw a rough sketch of the person or thing you would like to paint.
Use your eraser to carefully rub out the lines so that they are faint and won't be noticed when you are finished painting.

Step 2:
You can choose a theme of colors for example I did blue, purple, pink, but it is entirely up to you. Now when you first start off use a small brush so that it is easy to control, and dilute the paint a lot, so that you can work with lighter shades and build up.

Step 3:
As you build up your painting try to focus on tones, lighting and where shadows would be (this is when your photo comes in handy!).
And remember have fun and experiment with different effects and tools, also maybe use contrasting colors (e.g. pink/green) for a bold pop!!

And this is the finished product. I pretty happy with how it turned out and I hope you guys liked this quick tutorial and hope you feel inspired to be creative and have fun!
